KICKS/HI CONVERSE CHUCKS RELEASE PARTY at SHAKE+POP.

On the night of the release for our KICKS/HI ‘Tiger Camo’ Chucks, we teamed with our SuperHandsome DJ team to throw a release party at our monthly dance party: SHAKE+POP. We were able to get the extended fam FourColorZack (Fool’s Gold/The Tighten Up/SuperHandsome) to be a special headline DJ, and then to top it off, the big homie JAYCEEOH (TaylorGang/Super7) was in town and dropped a surprise set! Another excellent jumpoff!

Every project we partake in is a big deal, but this one has been definitely one of the most fulfilling ones we have done in the entire 10 years of our existence.

When we opened our first KICKS/HI door 10 years ago on Makaloa St in Honolulu, we felt that a boutique that was built upon our collective aesthetics and firmly rooted in island lifestyle would work, but little did we know that it would grow to become one of the premier shops and brands worldwide. It has been a humbling, organic journey that was been laced with as many pitfalls as there has been success, but therein lies the beauty of a strong business with ties embedded within and drawing energy from the community and people it services. We have always strove to put on for Hawaii and the shop with as much forward thinking and design as it is drawn from the rich traditions and cultures that are bountiful here.

This limited edition Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Hi is a milestone in our 10 year anniversary. A shop mascot of sorts, and recurring motif since we first opened for business September 12, 2001, has been the tiger shark, which is native to the island waters. With this shoe being our third collaboration with Converse, we wanted to step outside of a material play and run with a pattern, which we chose a tiger camouflage to do so. The tiger camo is a subtle reference to our tiger shark mascot. The camo pattern is technologically advanced in that it is pin-point laser-printed on the material used for the upper. The orange outsole is an ode to our signature shop color: orange.

The video for the release not only celebrates the launch of the shoe, but it also embraces the friends, family, and Hawaii living that has got us this far – with 10 upon 10 upon 10 more years of continued growth and success shining brightly in our future. Special thanks to: Luke Aguinaldo for the video edit, Tassho Pearce & Syze One for licensing us their song for the soundtrack, and Converse for always showing love and support of the shop.

KICKS/HI COURT VICTORY PUMP by REEBOK – IN STORE RELEASE & LAUNCH PARTY

On Saturday, February 5th 2011, KICKS/HI released our 10 Year Anniversary Court Victory Pump by Reebok at our flagship Makaloa door (1530 Makaloa St. Honolulu, HI 96814) and later on that night, there was a launch party for the shoe and to celebrate our first 10 years of business. The Manifest (32 N. Hotel St, Chinatown, HNL) hosted all our closest friends, fam and clientele who have supported us throughout the years. Our own SUPERHANDSOME DJs: DELVE, SSSolution & XL all tore up the dancefloor till the lights came up at 2AM (which was too soon if you ask us!)

KICKS/HI is celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2011, and to start it off, we will be releasing our take on the iconic Reebok Court Victory Pump shoe-made popular by ’90s tennis superstar Michael Chang. This limited edition shoe is only available at KICKS/HI and select shops worldwide, such as Saint Alfred, KICKS/HI +GUAM, etc.

We will be having our launch of the shoe THIS SATURDAY (02/05/11) at our KICKS/HI flagship door (1530 Makaloa St. Honolulu, HI 96814). Each KICKS/HI Court Victory purchase will also receive a free KICKS/HI t-shirt & snapback cap (while supplies last) to commemorate this event. Doors open at 1100A. Early arrival is suggested as we have been receiving many calls about this shoe…

KICKS/HI x REEBOK PUMP20 LAUNCH: “SHAKE+POP” w/ FOURCOLORZACK x SUPERHANDSOME

The night of Saturday, November 21 2009, KICKS/HI x Reebok x Superhandsome teamed up with the wild popular, monthly dance party known as “SHAKE+POP” in chinatown for a special edition of S+P to launch the KICKS/HI for Reebok Pump20 shoe proper. Over 300+ people came through! (The club was on the verge of over capacity!) LYAN RAU was ever present with his new DSLR to document the night through his 50mm + fisheye lenses. So many friends, fam, customers, homies, etc. were in the building! You could feel the energy in the air that night for sure…this all culminated with one of the greatest DJ sets turned in by our main dude and Superhandsome DJ member, FOURCOLORZACK (yo!son, fools gold records/SEA).
