KICKS/HI x REEBOK PUMP20 LAUNCH: “SHAKE+POP” w/ FOURCOLORZACK x SUPERHANDSOME

The night of Saturday, November 21 2009, KICKS/HI x Reebok x Superhandsome teamed up with the wild popular, monthly dance party known as “SHAKE+POP” in chinatown for a special edition of S+P to launch the KICKS/HI for Reebok Pump20 shoe proper. Over 300+ people came through! (The club was on the verge of over capacity!) LYAN RAU was ever present with his new DSLR to document the night through his 50mm + fisheye lenses. So many friends, fam, customers, homies, etc. were in the building! You could feel the energy in the air that night for sure…this all culminated with one of the greatest DJ sets turned in by our main dude and Superhandsome DJ member, FOURCOLORZACK (yo!son, fools gold records/SEA). KICKS/HI x REEBOK PUMP20 LAUNCH: BEACH CLEAN-UP – KAIMANA BEACH

On Saturday morning, November 21 2009, KICKS/HI held a beach clean-up in conjunction with Reebok and Red Bull (Rob, I see you, fam!) to pick up trash at a popular family beach-Kaimana Beach in Waikiki. This volunteer effort was initiated to help kokua the beach and outlying picnic areas. The amount of trash we picked up was astounding-in a bad way because it meant that it all could have potentially just been there, collecting, if we hadn’t come through. We feel very strongly that its important to keep our beaches clean out of respect for our ocean and natural resources. Never turn your back on the ocean. Big mahalos to everyone who showed up to volunteer their time and effort. We will be organizing another beach clean up again. Details to come.

KICKS/HI x REEBOK PUMP20 DESIGN CONFERENCE – REEBOK HEADQUARTERS – BOSTON

Last November Reebok gathered 20 of the top boutiques in the world, including the likes of KICKS/HI, Saint Alfred, HUF, Commonwealth, Collette, Bodega (just to name a few), at their Reebok Headquarters in Boston, MA. For a week they opened up their materials library, introduced us to Reebok designers and other key figures. All the while, each shop was building their material make-up and story for their respective Pump20 design. It was an amazing experience to see a shoe through from concept to its release to its reception by the public, which has been overwhelmingly positive towards our KICKS/HI for Reebok Pump. Big mahalo to Matt Ting, Ryan Cross and the entire Reebok staff, all of our Pump20 partners, and all of our customers/fam!

MR.CHOW

What can I say about Mr.Chow? Owner of the largest collection of Versace in Hawaii (by his own account). One of the most matching dudes out there. The other day he came in draped in gear (minus those raver-cargo pants) he’s picked up from KICKS/HI: Phenomenon snapback, Phenomenon S/S polo shirt and SB Dunks. He added his own flair to the cap with a Versace (what else?) pin. He picked up a KICKS/HI tee because he’s into his black+yellow period right now. A true original. He’s the reason why when I hear dudes rapping about Mr.Chow’s; I picture this swanky dude, not the swanky restaurant.

THE DO-OVER

One of our best friends of the shop is Mr. Jamie Strong from the Stones Throw camp, and on top of helping PBWolf and Egon make sure everything that is ST runs smoothly; Jamie spins a playlist that is decidedly his own, and he does so every once and a while at one of the hands down best parties ever, The Do-Over. I mean, this past Sunday, Babu, Rhettmatic and J-Rocc tag teamed a ridiculous set with the one and only Eek-a-Mouse chatting over the beats (peep the pics: black_mane1′s flickr. It’s that kind of spontaneous element that makes this one party I need to make it out to LA for! Trust! Music is life.

Official like a referee’s whistle. “S+P” is a 21+ monthly dance party hosted by Nocturnal Sound Krew x SuperHandsome DJs x KICKS/HI at thirtyninehotel (chinatown, HI). Dance like you know! YKWWS!
