NIKE SB MARCH ‘10:
The obvious standout here is the “green leaf” Bruin for its retro-tastic styling.I personally like the Dunk High SB in grey suede w/ red midsole and blue outsole because it feels like some of the early SB Dunk Highs. Good stuff all around. NIKE “MANNY PACQUIAO” ZIP-UP HOODIE:
Real clean zip-up Nike Manny Pac-Man hoodie featuring an embroidered “MP” logo on the right chest (when wearing). Other than that, no other branding-just a simple, clean hoodie. Get yours at KICKS/HI Makaloa. Limited sizes available. VANS VAULT SPRING ‘10 SHOES:
A ridiculously detailed (in the best way possible) Vault Half Cab LX, which has a epi/ridged midsole (nice touch!) and buttery nubuck upper, black crushed, velvet tongue (done in a snake scale pattern). These are both hot colorways because they aren’t straight forward red or blues-its a muted pastel tone that really works. Available in Hawaii exclusively at KICKS/HI Makaloa.
A vibrant, lake blue Vans Vault-California Collection Authentic CA with a herringbone upper. How Vans got this Herringbone color is beyond me-unless they dyed fabric. Eye poppin’-to say the least! Another one you can only find in Hawaii at our Makaloa door.
These beauties are geared (sorry bad pun) towards our pedal pushin’ brehtren. Vans Vault-California Collection Era “45 CA Fixed”. The heel upper is reflective 3M; as well as partial sewn in strips on the shoelaces. Very safe AND stylin’. Double whammy! KICKS/HI Makaloa has a limited amount of pairs in these right now. A couple of nice interpretations of Jansport’s “Right Pack” and “Kegger” backpacks from their “Urban Framework” line. Another “California Collection” release: this time a mid-top version of the popular Mt.Edition. I like the Half Cab feel of this shoe-with the strap moved up from the toe section on the regular Mt.Edition shoe. Available in 3 glorious colorways to decide “which one should I get?” And how do I know that this is question on your minds? Easy, its the question that runs through my little mind whenever I look at these-and even more so when I look at the next set of shoes below! Decisions. Decisions. VANS VAULT MENS SK8-HI STANDARD:
WHOA. The SK8-Hi Standard is THAT SHOE. My favorite Vans from last year, and quite possibly my favorite Vans from this Spring. A great balance of ballistic nylon and suede. I’m lovin’ the tonal round laces and silver eyelets. The black collar is a nice touch too. It very much has that military/surplus/rugged feel to all three colors-even though that cranberry red and electric blue aren’t conventional military colorways. I have all 3 colorways on hold right now. Promise. It’s like that. CROOKS&CASTLES SPRING 2010:
Crooks been doin’ their thing. Every season they continue to improve on their cut and sew with new silhouettes and their own original takes on classic pieces-they inject all kinds of fresh details without driving their cost through the roof. Their line is so extensive now that the odds are not every shop is going to have much of a overlap in product. What I also like about C&C is that they continually finesse the hood and don’t lose sight of their initial street aesthetic. The ability to go season upon season and have recognizable pieces with continual growth is hard to do. I good example of that is Stussy. Converse took their signature Weapon silhouette to their skate division with a suede + patent leather upper and vulcanized outsole-which gives this original basketball DNA new blood. I haven’t got any feedback from the skate kids on its function but it seems like you can feel your board well when setting up and landing tricks. Now available at KICKS/HI Makaloa. The theme for March is definitely GREY, which is GREY(t) haha get it? Great? OK that was lame, but yeah, the grey colorway is out en force for this set of Nikes. Good to see a Trainer SC High retro again (and without a vulcanized sole is a miracle-being that they’ve vulcanized almost every shoe in their catalog except for the Air Max line). A new Lunar Rejuven8 Mid+ (super fly looking and a ridiculously comfortable shoe), new Blazer colorways (lovely), a new Zoom Kobe V (glorious)…basically a nice collection of styles. In case you don’t know, Converse has entered the skate market with a new line called “Black Flag” which is signified on all their shoes’ tongue tags with the simple black flag and one star. This is the “CVO 3/4 Ox”. It adheres to the “K.I.S.S.” (keep it simple, stupes) mantra-with no unnecessary embellishments.
